Conference on Hydrogen in Materials
(In-person only event)
Date: June 4, 2025 - June 6, 2025
Event Location: La Rochelle University, La Rochelle, France
Organized by: ASTM Committee F07.04 on Hydrogen Embrittlement
About the Event
The Conference on Hydrogen in Materials will be held June 4, 2025 - June 6, 2025. The conference is organized by ASTM Committee F07.04 on Hydrogen Embrittlement, and will be held at La Rochelle University in La Rochelle, France. The language of the conference will be English.
Objective and Scope
Hydrogen embrittlement has historically been a concern where hydrogen is absorbed by materials, either during manufacturing processes or as a byproduct of corrosion. With the advent of the hydrogen economy, the scope of research has grown to include material interaction with hydrogen gas. The infrastructure needed for hydrogen gas storage and transportation, as well as the materials needed at the point of use of hydrogen fuel, for heating or in vehicles, trains, and aircraft, are now part of the conversation. This conference provides a forum for the global hydrogen embrittlement research and testing communities to meet and exchange ideas on the latest fundamental research, and advances in technology, and to consider engineering implications across all industrial sectors.
Topics for this conference include, but are not limited to:
- Hydrogen in storage
- Hydrogen transport
- Modeling of hydrogen diffusion and trapping
- Hydrogen on fracture
- Hydrogen on fatigue
- Hydrogen on additive manufacturing and high entropy alloys
- Mechanisms of hydrogen embrittlement
- Hydrogen embrittlement susceptibility
Abstract Submission
To participate in the conference, authors must submit a 2 to 3-page abstract using the ASTM Extended Abstracts template provided in the online Abstract Submission Portal no later than August 31, 2024. To ensure your abstract was received into the ASTM database, please email symposia@astm.org and let us know that you have submitted an abstract.
To be considered, the abstract must include a clear definition of the objective and approach of the work discussed, pointing out material that is new, and present sufficient details regarding results. The presentation and manuscript must not be of a commercial nature, nor can it have been previously published. Because a limited number of abstracts will be accepted, authors must make sure thagt their abstract submission is complete to allow for careful assessment of the paper's suitability for this conference. Corresponding authors will be notified via email by October 4, 2024 of their paper’s acceptability for presentation at the conference. The extended abstracts will be included in the conference program booklet, but will not be peer-reviewed or copy-edited, so accepted authors will need to strive to submit material suitable for distribution, as-submitted.
Publication Information
Based on the technical quality of the abstracts, presenters may be contacted to submit a full paper for the planned special issue of ASTM’s Materials Performance and Characterization (MPC). This journal is focused on publishing papers on both the theoretical and practical aspects of the processing, structure, properties, and performance of materials. Only papers that fit the scope of the MPC will be considered. You will be notified by November 15, 2024, if the Editor-in-Chief of the journal would like you to submit a full paper for a special issue.
Please note that all submitted papers are subject to peer review by two independent reviewers. Manuscripts to be peer reviewed for the special issue are due online at the ASTM Editorial Office no later than April 15, 2025. Papers submitted to the Material Performance and Characterization will be peer reviewed prior to publication. The corresponding author will receive a copy of their paper in an electronic format. All published authors will have the opportunity to purchase reprints of their papers at a nominal cost.
Technical Program
A technical program (presentation times, paper titles, and presenters’ names) will be posted on the ASTM website by early Spring 2025.
Registration
Registration opens approximately 10 weeks before the start of the conference.
